New to this convention

Meetup for Anime Midwest forum people or just new people to the convention? I know on cosplay.com someone started a "Lone and new cosplayers" meetup for a convention. We could do that Those prices are normal to me. I'm used to paying $70+ for weekend convention admission. I can't go though because that is when I will be going to Otakon (that was $80 for the weekend, and only 3 days. $90 for 4 days is pretty cheap actually). lol That seems more difficult to do, good luck with that! Wigs are easy I think... just really time consuming I don't have any ideas, I was thinking of hiring someone to collaborate with me on ideas (I need a graphic designer). So for now I will just leave my cards as is :P Oh lol that seems like it would be hard to work with if your fabric kept falling apart. Definitely fabric choice is something to pay special attention to. Luckily for me if I were to start constructing my costumes, a lot of research on what material should be used has been done, so finding the right material is relatively easy for me. RIGHT? Like holy shit, that man cooks some amazing food! Of course it's all sketchy food, but still.. his food looks so awesome!

Either one really. We could do a forum meetup and that also offers help/suggestions to the newbies. That would be fun. Ahhh yeah, I'm an unemployed student at the moment so I'm not really used to spending that much for conventions yet. How many times have you been to Otakon? Thank you very much haha it's tricky but going better than I though it would. It won't be the best but it's at least decent and cool looking anyway. How do you store your wigs? Do you just leave them on mannequin heads? I would get paranoid that they would develop mats magically on their own. I might be able to hook you up with someone who's good at graphic design. I'll have to double check though, of course. But if it's just for ideas I might be able to help a bit. Do you want a simplistic design? It's a painful experience. lol My mom and I tried to help a friend of mine make a dress out of that kind of material for a play and we were all just zombies when it was finally done. Yes indeed, fabric choice is vital if you don't want to have a breakdown. Ahh that is really lucky. I'm really glad that more people are posting helpful tips and how to's from their costume making experiences. It's as if he's making food for the gods, I've never seen food look so beautiful before!

How would we get people to know about it though? I don't know any cosplayers out here so creating a FB event may be hard, although we could try it. I think this will be my 4th year at Otakon. I've been going since 2010. You're welcome! I'm sure it will turn out well. You have one more week to get it done, so that should be enough time. Yep. I just let them sit on the wig heads when I am not using them. I don't worry about them matting up because my wigs are made up of mostly dreadlocks anyways, so it wouldn't matter too much if they got tangled. Jack Sparrow has kind of messy hair, it's okay xD And wigs generally don't develop mats on their own if you just keep them on the wig heads, but if you have a long flowing wig it may help to put a hairnet over it to keep the hair in place. I don't really know quite yet what I want.... I was thinking like a modified version of the image seen on Jack Sparrow's pirate flag http://www.wallpaper4me.com/images/wallpapers/jacksparrowflag-962362.jpeg

We could use the forums here first and see how that goes? I know a decent group of cosplayers that are going but I think they'll mostly be busy with their own groups and such. Hmmm. Maybe a dinner meetup? Oh wow dang, do you keep all your badges? I'm pretty much staying at home working on it now haha I don't want to risk not finishing it in time. Here's what I've got so far (tracking my progress for future ref): http://armsjet.tumblr.com/tagged/drift%20thing Ahh true, wouldn't make much of a difference. My friend's sister has a collection of wigs that she just puts wherever and quite a few are rather long. I don't know how they magically stay in decent condition without a wig head. OH GOOD IDEA. I didn't even think of using hairnets. A spookier version of it perhaps?

A dinner meetup sounds like a lot of fun! I'd totally be up for that. What restaurants are near the Hyatt? I do :D I don't know where they all went though, I think they are still somewhere in one of the bags that I packed before I moved (I hate unpacking so right now my room is a mess :P ) And the helmet looks awesome! I will definitely look out for you, it will be much easier to spot you now that I know what it looks like. Looks really great! lol you should ask your friend's sister what her secrets are xD No, that's what it actually looks like. That's just a more photoshopped version I guess, the regular version is just a simple vector art design http://img12.elex-tech.org/10000/2011/1209/a0/e/42301/original.png

If I remember correctly there's a restaurant right next to the fountain in the convention area. I've never eaten there before so I'm not sure how good it is. You could probably decorate a christmas tree with all of the badges by now I bet! Uugh, unpacking is always dreadful. My room is a total mess now that I finished the helmet and made a bag. It's out of control. Ahhh thank you very very much!! I'm really glad I finished just in time, almost thought I wouldn't be able to make it! I think I shall next time I see her. It shoudn't remain a mystery. Ohh okay. That'll be pretty neat, nice and simple.

Oh someone posted a link in one of my threads with a whole bunch restaurant options if we decided to do the meetup. http://www.rosemont.com/the_park_at_rosemont.php But I think now it's too late since the con is this weekend. Lol that would be funny if I did that, if I collect enough badges for that, I might do a small convention tree xD Mine is too... Jack Sparrow stuff everywhere. You're welcome! Well that's awesome that you were able to finish it I tried to finish my wig in time but my need for sleep and the fact that I am missing a few wig trinkets is stopping me from finishing it for this weekend :( I may bring the wig stuff with me and might be able to finish the wig on Friday, but I doubt that will happen. lol yea you definitely should ask her, I don't think there are really any secrets to keeping a wig looking nice and tangle free... maybe using conditioning wig spray would help

Haha yeah maybe. Well if some of us do happen to meetup we can still do that anyway. Maybe next time we can manage a food meetup? Woohoo! If I ever collect enough badges I'll attempt to decorate the tree with them as well. I have a bad habit of losing mine though, sometimes even during the con. Do you have a bunch of posters and related knick knacks? Indeed, it'll make the con extra interesting now. What do you need to do for the wig? Fridays are tend to be late days for things to get really moving so if you have enough energy you could probably make it in time. Best of luck to you! Actually she might do that. I know there's detangling spray that works really well

Oh yea definitely. If we meet up, then we can always hang out for a while and we may even still go out to dinner. How about if we arrange to meet somewhere near the check-in desk at the Hyatt on Friday? Not sure how far out of the way that will be but right now it is the only location I know I will be able to find lol No, I generally don't buy anything at conventions besides food. My costumes are pretty costly (Jack so far is totaling around $1500+), so I need that money to go towards my costumes. Well I found out that I need to make more dreadlocks in different colors so that I can make sure that the right colors are placed in the right spot (making the OST wig, I have to make sure to pinpoint to the best of my ability where each dreadlock is sewn on his wig). And I am missing around 5 charms/trinkets for my wig. So it is definitely not going to be used this weekend unfortunately :( What wig are you working on that you need the spray for?
