New to cosplay and seeking advice

Hi there! I'm new the the cosplay scene, but I've been wanting to give it a go for a while. This up-coming convention would be my first time, so I was wondering if there were any experts out there that could lend some advice to a rookie. I'm mostly nervous about what kind of cosplay I would go in, seeing as my interests are more geared toward less anime groups: Sonic, Disney, etc. I've also seen that others would go as three different characters over the weekend. Is that what I should do, or could I be the same all three days? Also, any tips on making your own cosplay that could help would be nice. I have an idea on paper, but I don't know how to make it come alive. I've seen such amazing works online and am afraid of standing out too much from my inexperience. Ah! Awesome getting into cosplay is always a fun start! Well cosplaying doesn't always have to be about anime, you can do american characters as well. And seeing how it is your first cosplay, I'd pick a show you really like and look at the simpler characters and choose from their. Once you pick a character google cosplay tutorials for them and i'm sure something will pop up or you can post a thread on a forum asking for help. On the weekend you don't have to go as 3 characters (one for every day), 1 character or 2 characters is fine especially since you are a beginner (when you get more advance you could probably do 3 characters in one day!!) Don't worry about standing out because people won't point you out or anything they'll just take notice that you are a beginner cosplayer. (my sister did a cosplay of liz from soul eater and it was her first cosplay ever last year and it was well newbie status and she got tons of pictures!!! so who knows you could have your picture taken alot too!)Well that's all I got for a cosplayer of 2 years! sorry if that didn't help >.< Have a good day!!!

Yay, new cosplayers! Welcome to the cosplaying world. YouTube does indeed have many great video guides to various cosplaying stuff. So you will find allot of 'How to's there. For more advice you should always check forums. I recommend cosplay.com because generally have good advice and tips (: If you will be attending Midwest you should check out our panel Sunday morning at 10 called Cosplay F.A.Q.
