Bringing a sword

This will be my first time at anime midwest, but I went to Acen a few months back. I'm worried about the sword I have for my cosplay, because the hilt on the sword is oddly shaped and I'm not sure if the staff can zip tie/ peace tie it. I was wondering if I tried to zip tie it at home that it would pass inspection.
