Not sure if there are tech savy people lerking around. So I'm building a computer I've already got the CPU, RAM, Tower, Power Supply and CPU fan. I'm missing the GPU since I'm on a budget. I'm not sure what to get a GTX 950/960 or Radeon R7/9 depending on the price. If there is any other GPU out there under $180 that is better let me know or help me decide. Even used/refurbished are good as long as it works!
I had a budget used gtx960 it was good enough for the pc games I played. I'm thinking about getting a 970 or 980 for my next pc. Currently though I'm not really working on my next pc. As most of my games are on console anyway. And a new pc in parts cost the same as a used car or a great handgun.
I'm going to have to second Daggerfall's opinion here. Stick to nVidia, it's a good GPU that works very well across virtually all games. As well as just getting a decent placeholder GPU until nVidia releases their next lineup, which won't be long.
Sadly, while it's about a $100 more the GTX 970 would have to be the best lower-end general gaming GPU for the price. It can still play many modern games at Good and High quality settings without stutter and lag.
To get a good idea for what you need as a minimum, look through some PC games you currently like and play and look at the Minimum and Recommended Specs. Then find something at least newer than the Minimum Spec requirement.
