What is an anime convention? If you are unfamiliar, an anime convention is a celebration of Japanese anime and manga. Our convention, held in Chicago, will bring together over 10,000+ fans of anime, comic books, art, music, and more for three full days in July. Attendees gather to cosplay, meet awesome guests, attend concerts, and make a ton of new friends. Anime conventions happen around the country, and Anime Midwest is one of the best events you can find in Chicago. You can check out tons pictures or videos from last year.

Why should I attend? There are many different reasons people attend Anime Midwest. You can do things like compete in gaming tournaments or watch new anime shows. You can meet fellow fans at social events, dances, and karaoke. You can experience big events like our giant dance parties and major concerts. You can meet famous people who directed or acted in shows you like. You can cosplay and hang out with fellow costumers. And, most importantly of all, you can be yourself while doing so.

What is Anime Midwest? Anime Midwest, an "AnimeCon.org" event, is often considered the best anime convention you could possibly attend. We, the organizers, organize five other conventions and we have a lot of practice at making your experience run smoothly. You can expect events to start on time and our staff to be courteous and helpful.

Last year's activities included: several cosplay competitions, two Japanese fashion shows, a free photobooth room, an exhibit hall with artists and vendors, fan meetups, over 100 panels, Q&As with our guests, swordsmanship demonstrations, martial arts demonstrations, two major concerts, a dedicated Karaoke room, a dedicated tabletop game room, a dedicated 24-hour video game room, a dedicated arcade game room, an anime showings room, and more.

How do I attend? Because there is so much to do, you may want to decide what you want to do most. Some people spend the entire weekend wandering around with friends and not even attending events. Others try to pack in as many events as possible into their weekend. Ask some of your friends if they are interested in going with you, and you may be able to make costumes together too (not everyone wears a costume, it's about 50%). Once you've decided to attend, register early on our website to get a cheaper admission price (as much as $20 cheaper than buying your ticket at the door). Also book a hotel room with your friends from our convention's hotel, unless you want to commute.
One day or the whole weekend? A lot of major events happen only one day, so experiencing them all requires you to stay for the weekend. You can commute to the event every day, but it's not recommended as you lose a lot of possible event time as events run for 24 hours once the convention starts on Friday morning. Splitting a hotel room with four friends can make it relatively inexpensive to stay for the whole weekend.
